Biography

A newcomer in the music scene, singer-songwriter JQ x ZUL is a female/male duo that busks in the heartlands of Singapore where crowd varies from different ages. Mixing influences from Acoustic Pop Folk, Pop Rock and Pop-Punk, they were able to create a recipe of their own with a unique sound.

The two met in Temasek Polytechnic back in 2013 but did not play music together until 2015. They did a number of unpaid gigs and decided to branch out into busking in 2017. This earned them many followers and helped put them on the map in the Singapore Acoustic scene.

Currently doing her Diploma in Music at Lasalle College of the Arts, majoring in vocals, JQ made several new friends in music. These close friends along with Zul has become a tight-knit band that realises the music behind JQ x ZUL’s original material.

Previously having worked with Bandwagon Asia for multiple events, they have so far played at Marina Bay Sands, DBS Busking By The Bay, AIA Glow Festival, Singapore Gardens Festival and many more including a private performance for DBS Commemorative Event at The Istana a few weeks back. They were featured in Esplanade’s Red Dot August this year and had recently won Band Blast 2019, a competition organised by Lasalle College of the Arts, and had the opportunity to open for Lasalle RIF 2019. Honoured to be part of the NOISE Music Mentorship Programme 2018, they are currently in the midst of recording their debut EP.

Promotion

This is the most important part of the plan. Without good promotion, our event wont be able to reach people. We are lucky that we are in collaborations with Bandwagon Asia, they have agreed to help us promote our songs and event when it’s nearing the date.

We will be busking more often and get help from the public to spread the word! Family and friends will help us out too.

As we were part of the Noise Music Mentorship Programme 2018, we will send the event onto the Noise Alumni Group on Facebook and on the Whatsapp chat we were all in.

We cant wait for this!

Merchandise

We are thinking of making merchandises of JQ x ZUL.
Most potential items are Caps and Stickers.

We are planning to give out caps to musicians we know in Singapore so they can help us promote the brand.

As for stickers, we plan to give them out during our busking sessions and we hope that with the help of the public, we will gain more recognition and people would come and watch us.

Find Me – Mix 1

Our debut single, ‘Find Me’, was sent in for post production work and we just received it. It sounds good and definitely going in the right direction. There are a few fine tunings to do, with feedback from lecturer Chok Ke Rong. We are looking forward to hear the next mix and are excited for whats to come.

Busking

Busking has been one of the major highlights throughout our music journey so far. And we are trying to raise money through busking and also gigging to fund for our EP. Busking has never failed to make our day because our aim was always to put a smile on at least one person’s face. We have never failed to do so and we would love to keep doing it.
